Competency-Based Education
Preparing learners for the 21st century through three senior school pathways.

CBE at Pangani Girls
Pangani Girls Senior School is a national senior school offering the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBE) for Grades 10–12. We follow the CBE framework set by the Ministry of Education and aim to prepare learners with both academic knowledge and practical competencies for higher education and future careers.
- Fully CBE-compliant senior school
- Three specialised pathways offered
- Continuous assessment approach
- Focus on practical competencies
What CBE means here
- Critical thinking — analytical and problem-solving skills through practical application.
- Communication — verbal, written and digital communication for effective collaboration.
- Creativity — innovation, imagination and creative expression across all subjects.
- Digital literacy — technology skills for the digital age and the future workplace.
- Self-efficacy — confidence, responsibility and ethical citizenship.
How learners are assessed
Students are assessed through a blend of continuous assessment, practical projects, portfolios of evidence and national examinations tailored to their chosen pathway — a holistic evaluation rather than relying solely on final written exams. This includes classwork and assignments, hands-on projects, portfolios, teacher assessments, subject practical exams, and national summative assessment at Grade 12.

- Pathway specialisation — from Grade 10, students select one of the three pathways and take specialised subjects aligned with their interests and talents.
- Continuous assessment — classwork, projects, practicals and national summative tests, with emphasis on demonstrating competency.
- Competency focus — research skills, teamwork, creativity, problem solving and communication, not just passing exams.
CBE readiness
Pangani Girls has integrated the CBE pathways into its academic structure, offering learners the full breadth of options in a national school setting: specialised laboratories, studios and facilities; teaching staff trained in CBE pedagogy and assessment; aligned learning materials; and systems for continuous assessment and competency tracking.
Note: these competencies equip learners not just for national assessments but for university readiness and real-world problem solving.
