Our history
A legacy of excellence spanning more than 90 years.
1932 — Founded as the Duchess of Gloucester School
Pangani Girls Senior School traces its origins to 1932, when it was founded during the colonial era as the Duchess of Gloucester School, primarily serving the Asian community in Nairobi.
1963 — Renamed after independence
After Kenya's independence in 1963, the school was renamed Pangani Girls and gradually opened its doors to students of all backgrounds, embracing the spirit of the new nation.
1986 — Transition to boarding
Originally a day school, it became a full boarding school in 1986 to accommodate a broader student population from across the country.
2011 — National School status
Pangani Girls steadily built a reputation for academic excellence, leading to its elevation to National School (Cluster 1) status in 2011, enabling it to admit students from all regions of Kenya.
Today
Pangani Girls Senior School is a distinguished public national girls' boarding school in the Pangani area of Nairobi County, along Juja Road in Starehe Constituency. It is widely regarded as one of Kenya's strong academic institutions for girls and consistently attracts high-performing students from across the country.
The school's facilities — science laboratories, a library, boarding hostels and a wide range of clubs — support both academic and co-curricular development, fostering a holistic education.
